Protect your credit by using credit freeze

Protect your credit by using credit freeze

Our friend, Clark Howard has it right when he talks about protecting your credit by ‘freezing’ your credit report.

Freezing your credit essentially closes your credit report to anyone who may want to snoop around. You get a pin number in case you have someone (a mortgage company perhaps) who legitimately needs to access your credit information.

The cost is typically around $10 per person per year but well worth the protection. Here are the fees for each reporting agency by state:
Equifax Credit Freeze State Fees (www.equifax.com)
Experian Credit Freeze State Fees (www.experian.com)
Transunion Credit Freeze State Fees (www.transunion.com)

Be sure to read each agency’s policies carefully to determine if this is the best option for you and how to unfreeze your credit if you need to apply for a mortgage, credit card or other loan.

If you have questions or need more information, don’t hesitate to contact us at Creative Mortgage 804.965.0333 – we will be happy to help!
